Al-Qiyamah: (17) "Indeed, upon Us is its collection..."

Indeed, upon Us is its collection within your breast, such that nothing of its meanings or its Qur’an (recitation) escapes you. That is, the establishment of its recitation upon your tongue so that you may recite it whenever you wish. Qur’an here, as well as in the subsequent instance, is a verbal noun meaning "recitation," as in the saying:

They offer up a white-haired one, the mark of prostration upon him, Breaking the night with glorification and recitation.

It is a verbal noun added to its object, with an implied addition. It has also been said that Qur’anahu means its compilation. The meaning is: "Upon Us is its collection," that is, preserving it within your life and compiling it upon your tongue. It is also said that Qur’anahu is its compilation and collection, based on it being the verbal noun of qara’tu (I read/compiled), meaning "I gathered." From this is their saying regarding a woman who has never given birth, "She has never gathered anything," and the saying of Amr ibn Kulthum:

The foreleg of a young, white-skinned she-camel, Which has not gathered a fetus.

It is intended by the first "collection" that it be gathered in itself and in the aspects of the external world, and by "its Qur’an"—according to this meaning—that it be gathered within his mind, may Allah the Exalted bless him and grant him peace. Both of these interpretations have their status [of weakness] apparent, even if the first is attributed to Mujahid.
