{ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمَسَاقُ }

To your Lord on that Day is the driving, meaning: toward Allah—Exalted is He—and His judgment is the driving, not toward anyone else. This is on the premise that al-masāq (the driving) is a masdar mīmī (a gerund starting with the letter mīm), similar to al-maqāl. The predication of the predicate is for the sake of restriction (hasr). The statement contains an implied possessive: [the meaning being] the judgment of your Lord.

It is also said that it means the "appointed time," and what is intended by it is Paradise or the Fire. Others suggest there is an implied addition, such that the Lord—Glorified is His Majesty—is the Driver, meaning the driving of these people is delegated to your Lord, not to anyone else. The apparent meaning is what has preceded.

Furthermore, whether this relates specifically to the wicked person or to both the wicked and the righteous, what is intended by "the driving" is the driving appropriate to the one being driven. By my life, this verse is a glad tiding for the one who thinks well of his Lord and knows that He is the Lord whose mercy has preceded His wrath.

It is said: Tomorrow we shall arrive at the abodes of the Beloved, And the riders shall descend in their meadows. I said: "I have committed a sin, so what is my recourse? With what face shall I meet them?" They said: "Is not forgiveness of their nature? Especially toward one who places his hope in them."

Finally, the [actual] answer [to the preceding context] is omitted, indicated by what has been mentioned; that is: "what was to be has occurred," or "the reality of the matter was unveiled to the person," or "the human being found whatever he had done of good or evil."
