He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection?"
Tafsir
Verse range: 75:6
(He asks) by way of mockery: "When is the Day of Resurrection?" That is, when will it be?
It has been said that this sentence constitutes a circumstantial state (hal). It has also been said that it is an explanation (tafsir) for "to persist in wickedness" (fujur), or that it is a substitute (badal) for it.
The verifiers (al-muhaqqiqun) have chosen the view that it is an expository commencement (isti’naf bayani) brought forth to provide the reason for the desire to persist in wickedness, as it is equivalent in meaning to his denial of the Resurrection and his mockery of it. In this lies [the implication] that whoever denies the Resurrection will inevitably commit the severest forms of wickedness, and a portion of this is found in His, the Exalted’s, saying: "Far, far is that which you are promised; it is only our worldly life."
