And a full cup.
Tafsir
Verse range: 78:34
(Wa ka'san dihaqan) means brimful. It is said: "Dahaqa fulan al-hawd" and "Adhaqahu," meaning he filled it. Ibn Abbas interpreted it as such, and he recited the poet's verse: "Amir came to us seeking hospitality, so we filled for him a ka'san dihaqan (a brimful cup)."
In Al-Bahr, al-dihaq is explained as "the filled," derived from al-dahq, which is the act of seizing and binding something firmly by hand; it is as if, due to its fullness, it is compressed.
According to Mujahid and a group of scholars, it is interpreted as "consecutive." Al-Hakim verified, based on Ibn Abbas and reported by more than one, that he said it means: "The filled, the brimful, the consecutive." One might even hear Al-Abbas say, "O boy, give us to drink and fill it to the brim (adhaq) for us."
Ibn Jarir reported from Ikrimah that he said it means "clear," free from any turbidity. The majority, however, adhere to the first interpretation.
