Tafsir of Al-Anfal 8:62

"And if they intend to deceive you" by manifesting peace, "then indeed, Allah is sufficient for you"—meaning: Allah is your reckoner, your sufficiency, and your helper against them, so do not concern yourself with them. Hasb (sufficient) is a sifah mushabbahah (resembling adjective) in the meaning of the active participle, and the kaf (in hasbuka) is in the genitive case, as indicated by more than one scholar; they cited the verse of Jarir as evidence: "I have found that among nobility, your sufficiency [is] that you wear pure garments and are satiated." Al-Zajjaj said: It is a verbal noun (ism fi'l) meaning "it sufficed you," and the kaf is in the accusative case, but Abu Hayyan deemed him incorrect in this because grammatical agents can enter upon it, and it is inflected in phrases such as bi-hasbika dirham (a dirham is enough for you), and it cannot be a verbal noun in such a case.

"He is the One who supported you with His victory"—this is a new sentence introduced to explain why the Exalted’s sufficiency of him (peace and blessings be upon him) is the case. For His supporting him (peace and blessings be upon him) in what has passed, in the manner that has passed, is among the proofs of His supporting him (peace and blessings be upon him) in what is to come. Meaning: He is the One who supported you with His aid from Himself without an intermediary, or by means of the angels, while breaking the norms of nature.

"And with the believers"—from the Migrants (Muhajirun) and the Helpers (Ansar), according to what is most obvious. It is narrated from Abu Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him), Al-Nu'man ibn Bashir, Ibn Abbas, and Al-Suddi that they are the Helpers (Ansar) (may Allah be pleased with them).
