Kalla is an emphatic term used to guide the Prophet—may Allah the Exalted grant him peace—against repeating that for which he was admonished. This was revealed, as narrated by Ibn Jarir and Ibn Marduyah on the authority of Ibn Abbas, after he—upon him be peace and blessings—had concluded his private discourse and departed to his family. It is also permissible that it serves as an eloquent guidance to abandon that which was subject to the admonishment, based on the view that the revelation descended during that [event] or before it had concluded.
In some traditions, it is mentioned that after the Prophet—may Allah the Exalted grant him peace—frowned at the face of a poor man and failed to attend to the wealthy man, the people adopted a beautiful etiquette from this. Indeed, it has been narrated from Sufyan al-Thawri that the poor were the leaders in his gathering.
The pronoun in His saying, the Exalted, innaha (it is), refers to the Great Qur’an. The feminine gender is used because of the feminine nature of the predicate, namely His saying—glory be to Him—tadhkirah (a reminder), meaning a sermon by which one must take heed and act in accordance with its requirements.
