{Faces, that Day, will be radiant}

This is an explanation of the final outcome of those mentioned, and their division into the fortunate and the wretched after having mentioned their arrival at a disastrous calamity.

"Faces" is the subject (mubtada'), and the justification for beginning with it is that it falls within the context of classification, as previously mentioned. "Radiant" is its predicate (khabar), and "that Day" is connected to it. That is to say, they are bright and beaming, derived from the phrase "the morning became radiant" (asfara al-subh) when it illuminates.

It is narrated from Ibn Abbas that this radiance is from the standing in prayer at night. From al-Dahhak, it is narrated that it is from the traces of Wudu (ablution), and thus it is exclusive to this Ummah, meaning because Wudu is among their unique characteristics. It has been said: this refers only in comparison to previous nations, not in comparison to their prophets—peace be upon them. It is also said that it is from the length of time they were covered in dust in the cause of Allah the Exalted.
