"And when Paradise is brought near"

(And when Paradise is brought near), meaning: it is drawn close to the God-fearing, just as in His saying, the Exalted: "And Paradise will be brought near to the righteous, not far off."

Abd ibn Humayd and Ibn al-Mundhir recorded from Abu al-Aliyah that he said: "Six verses of this Surah take place in this world while people are watching, and six take place in the Hereafter. 'When the sun is wrapped up' until 'And when the seas are filled with flame'—these are in this world. And 'When the souls are paired' until 'And when Paradise is brought near'—these are in the Hereafter."

Ibn Abi al-Dunya, Ibn Jarir, and Ibn Abi Hatim recorded from Ubayy ibn Ka'b that he said: "Six signs [occur] before the Day of Resurrection: While people are in their marketplaces, the light of the sun will vanish. While they are in that state, the stars will become darkened. While they are in that state, the mountains will fall upon the face of the earth, causing it to shake and tremble; the jinn will flee to the humans and the humans to the jinn, and the beasts, birds, and wild animals will mingle, surging against one another, and the pregnant she-camels will be neglected. The jinn will say to the humans, 'We will bring you news,' so they will go to the sea and find it a raging fire. While they are in that state, the earth will crack open, a single cracking. While they are in that state, a wind will come to them and cause them to die."

Some have said that the first six occur between the two blasts [of the Trumpet], and this is what is intended by those who say they occur in this world. It has also been said that they occur before the first blast, and what follows them is up until the second blast; so do not be heedless.
