Tafsir
Verse range: 82:1
It is named Surah In-Fatarat (The Surah of "When [the heaven] split") and Surah Al-Munfatarah. There is no disagreement that it is Makkan, nor that it consists of nineteen verses. Its thematic connection to the preceding Surah is well-known.
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
"When the heaven is cleft asunder," meaning: it splits open for the descent of the angels, as in His, the Exalted, saying: "The day the heaven will split open with [the] clouds, and the angels will be sent down in successive descent." The discourse regarding the nominative case of al-sama’ (the heaven) is the same as that which preceded regarding the nominative case of al-shams (the sun).
