Al-Buruj: (12) Indeed, the assault of your Lord . . . . .

"Indeed, the assault of your Lord is severe" is a resumption [of the discourse] through which the Prophet, may Allah exalt him and grant him peace, is addressed, signaling that the disbelievers among his people have a plentiful portion of its contents. This is indicated by the reference to the title of Lordship while attributing it to his pronoun—upon him be prayer and peace.

Al-batsh (the assault) is to seize with force and violence. Since it is described as severe, it is multiplied and compounded. It is His—Exalted and Majestic is He—assault upon the tyrants and the oppressors, and His—Glorified be He—seizing of them with punishment and retribution.
