Tafsir of Al-Ghashiyah 88:4

(They shall enter) a scorching fire, that is, extreme in heat. It is derived from "the fire has become hot" (hamiyat an-nar) when its heat intensifies. It is a further predicate for the preceding descriptions. It has also been said that "humbled" (khashi'ah) is an adjective for it (the soul), and what follows are predicates. Others have said the first two are adjectives and the last two are predicates. It has also been said that the first three are adjectives and this clause is the predicate. All of these, as you can see, are debatable. It is also permissible that this and what follows it of the two clauses are an inception (isti'naf) explaining the details of their states.

Ibn Kathir, in a narration by Shibl, along with Humayd and Ibn Muhaysin, recited "working, toiling" (‘amilatun nasibatun) in the accusative case (nasb) as an expression of disparagement (dhamm). Abu Raja, Ibn Muhaysin, Ya'qub, Abu 'Amr, and Abu Bakr recited "shall enter" (tushla) with the letter ta marked with a damma. Kharijah recited it "shall enter" (tusalla) with the ta marked with a damma, the sad with a fatha, and the lam with a tashdid to indicate intensity.
