{Indeed, to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth} without any partner for Him in it. {He gives life and causes death.}

{And you have not, besides Allah, any protector or any helper.} (116).

More than one [scholar] has said: When He—Glory be to Him—forbade them from seeking forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they were relatives, and since that [prohibition] entailed the necessity of completely disavowing them, He explained to them that Allah—Glory be to Him—is the Owner of every existing thing, the Guardian of its affairs, and the Overpowerer of it. There can be no protection or victory for them except from Him—the Exalted—so that they might turn toward Him—Glorified be His Majesty—with their entire being, disavowing everything other than Him, and seeking none but Him.
