Verse range: 96:4
That is, He taught what He taught by means of the pen, and by nothing else. Just as He, Glory be to Him, taught the reader by means of writing with the pen, He teaches you without it. The reality of generosity (al-karam) is the giving of what is appropriate, not for the sake of any objective; thus, it is a quality in whose absolute application no one shares with Him, the Exalted. The form fa‘al is for intensity (mubalaghah).
It is permissible that "Read" (iqra’) here is not a reiteration of the first one; rather, it was mentioned to serve as a bridge to that which removes the excuse. The sentence "And your Lord..." and what follows is in the position of a circumstantial clause (hal) from the hidden pronoun within it.
