Tafsir
Verse range: 16:118
And upon those who became Jews, We prohibited what We have already related to you.
Know that when the Almighty established what is permissible and what is forbidden for the People of Islam, He followed it by explaining what was specifically prohibited for the Jews. This refers to what was previously mentioned in Surah Al-An'am.
And We did not wrong them, but they used to wrong themselves.
The interpretation of this is the same as mentioned in His saying: "Because of the wrongdoing of those who were Jews, We prohibited for them good things which had been lawful for them" (An-Nisa: 160).
Then, indeed, your Lord—for those who did evil out of ignorance and afterward repented and amended—indeed, your Lord, after that, is Forgiving and Merciful.
