Al-Ankabut (The Spider): Verse 13

"And they will surely bear their own heavy burdens and other burdens along with their own burdens..."

This phrase, "...of that which they used to invent," is subject to three possible interpretations:

  1. First Interpretation: Their previous statement, "And we will surely bear your sins" (referring to verse 12), was uttered based on their belief that there was no sin in disbelief. On the Day of Resurrection, the opposite of this belief will become evident to them, and they will be questioned about this fabrication.
  2. Second Interpretation: Their statement, "And we will surely bear your sins," was made under the assumption that there would be no Resurrection (Hushr). When the Day of Resurrection arrives, the reality contrary to their assumption will be revealed, and they will be questioned, being told, "Did you not say there would be no Resurrection?"
  3. Third Interpretation: When they said, "If you follow us, we will bear your sins on the Day of Resurrection," they will be told, "Then bear their sins!" Since they will be unable to bear them, they will be questioned and told, "Why did you lie/fabricate?"

Verse 14

"And We certainly sent Noah to his people, and he remained among them for a thousand years less fifty years. Then the flood seized them while they were wrongdoers."
