Al-Ankabut (The Spider): Verse 66

Then the Almighty said: {That they may disbelieve in what We have given them, and enjoy themselves; but they will know [the consequence].}

Regarding this verse, there are two interpretations:

  1. The Lām (ل) is Lām al-Kayy (the lām of purpose/reason): Meaning, they commit polytheism so that their polytheism becomes a disbelief in the blessing of salvation (which God granted them). And they enjoy themselves because of this polytheism. Then, {but they will know} the dire consequences of their deeds when their hopes vanish.
  1. The Lām is Lām al-Amr (the lām of command), used for threat: The meaning is a reprimand: "Let them disbelieve!" This is similar to His saying: {Do what you will} (Fussilat: 40), and His saying: {Do according to your way; indeed, We are doing. And you will know} (Al-An'am: 135), meaning, you will know the corruption of what you are doing.

{Have they not seen that We have made a sanctuary secure, while people are being snatched away from around them? Then in falsehood do they believe, and in the favor of Allah do they disbelieve?}
