Surah Ar-Rum (The Romans): Verse 57

Verse 57:

Translation/Exegesis:

On that Day, it will not benefit those who wronged themselves (by disbelief and sin).

  • Meaning: On that Day, seeking forgiveness (i'tāb)—which means repentance that removes the effects of the crime—will not be requested from them because it will not be accepted from them.

Verse 58:

Translation/Exegesis:

And indeed, We have presented for the people in this Qur'an from every [kind of] example. But if you bring them a sign, those who disbelieve will surely say, "You are not but deluded ones."

  • Exegesis (Al-Razi's Perspective): Allah states that He has presented every type of parable and example within the Qur'an for the benefit of mankind.
  • The Stubbornness of Disbelievers: Despite this comprehensive presentation of proofs and examples, if the Prophet (PBUH) were to bring them any specific sign (āyah), the disbelievers would inevitably respond by saying, "You are nothing but fabricators/deceivers (mubtilūn)." This highlights their entrenched disbelief, which rejects even direct evidence.
