Surah As-Sajdah: (25 - 26) Indeed, your Lord...

His saying: {Indeed, your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which they used to differ.}

This verse serves as a response to a potential question: Since Allah stated {And We made from them leaders guiding by Our command} (Surah As-Sajdah 32:24), someone might ask: How could they be guiding when they differed and became divided, while the path of truth is singular?

The answer is that Allah clarifies that He will distinguish between those who differed within one community, just as He distinguishes between those who differed across nations. Thus, even those who believed (in the Ummah) should not feel secure if they did not strive (in adherence to the truth). The innovator (Mubtadi') will be punished just like the disbeliever (Kafir). The only difference is that the punishment of the disbeliever will be more severe, more painful, longer in duration, and more eternal.

Then Allah Almighty said: {Has it not been a guidance for them how We destroyed before them many generations?}

We have previously mentioned that His saying {And indeed, We gave Moses the Book} confirms the Prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him) and reiterates the point made earlier in {that you may warn a people to whom no warner has come before you} (Al-Qasas 28:46). Since the message (Prophethood) was repeated, the oneness of God (Tawhid) was also repeated. Thus, He said: {Has it not been a guidance for them how We destroyed before them...}

His saying {they walk in their dwellings} is an added clarification, meaning: the dwellings of those destroyed testify to their state, and you (the current people) walk in them and see them.

His saying {Indeed, in that are signs; will they not then listen?} emphasizes hearing (listening). This is because they lacked the capacity for independent perception and deduction through their intellects. Therefore, He said, "will they not listen?" meaning, they do not even possess the status of a student who hears something and understands it.
