Verse range: 33:47
And give good tidings to the believers that...
Translation and Exegesis:
The phrase "And give good tidings to the believers" (وبشر المؤمنين) is connected (conjoined) to an implied preceding statement, which is understood as: "Indeed, We have sent you as a witness, and a bearer of good tidings, so bear witness, and give good tidings." The command "so bear witness" (فاشهد) was omitted because it is implicitly understood.
As for the command to give good tidings (البشارة), it was mentioned to highlight the generosity (of God) and because it is not obligatory unless specifically commanded.
And His saying, "that they will have from Allah a great bounty" (بأن لهم من الله فضلا كبيرا), is similar to His saying: "Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward" (Al-Ahzab: 35). Thus, "great" (عظيما) and "large/mighty" (كبيرا) are close in meaning. The fact that this bounty is "from Allah" (من الله) makes it great; how much more so if there were other layers of greatness added to it!
Verse 47 (Continuation):
{ And do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and ignore their harm, and rely upon Allah. And Allah is sufficient as a Trustee (or Guardian). } (ولا تطع الكافرين والمنافقين ودع أذاهم وتوكل على الله وكفى بالله وكيلا)
