Al-Ahzab (The Confederates): 54 - "If you reveal anything..."

[Verse Segment Translation & Exegesis]

"If you reveal anything..."

This means: If you do not harm him immediately, but rather intend to harm him, or intend to marry his wives after him, then "Allah is Knower of what is within the breasts." (He knows your innermost intentions.)

**{ It is not for the Prophet to cause the Prophet any harm, nor for them to marry his wives after him, ever. Indeed, that would be a grave matter with Allah. }** (This is a summary/contextual reference to the preceding verses, leading into the next section.)

**{ No blame is upon them regarding their fathers, nor their sons, nor their brothers, nor the sons of their brothers, nor the sons of their sisters, nor their womenfolk, nor what their right hands possess. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is ever, over all things, a Witness. }** (54)

[Exegesis Notes on the Verse]

  • "No blame is upon them...": This addresses the Prophet's wives (may Allah be pleased with them).
  • "...regarding their fathers, nor their sons, nor their brothers, nor the sons of their brothers, nor the sons of their sisters...": This clarifies that the wives are permitted to interact freely and associate with these specific male relatives (Mahram relatives) without any restriction or blame, even after the Prophet's passing.
  • "...nor their womenfolk...": Meaning, their female companions and relatives.
  • "...nor what their right hands possess.": Meaning, their male or female slaves/servants.
  • "And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is ever, over all things, a Witness.": A concluding command to maintain piety, as Allah observes all actions and intentions.
