Surah Saba' (34): Verse 27

Original Text Segment:

Translation:

We have previously mentioned that people worship a deity either to avert harm or to seek expected benefit.

However, only a few of the noble and mighty worship Him [God] because He deserves worship in and of Himself (for His intrinsic worth).

After establishing that no one other than God is invoked to avert harm—since no one can repel harm except Him, as stated in: {Say, "Call upon those whom you claim besides Allah"}—and after establishing that no one other than God is worshipped to seek benefit, as stated in: {Say, "Who provides for you from the heavens and the earth?"}—here, He clarifies that no one deserves worship except God, by saying:

{Say, "Show Me those whom you have joined with Him as partners. Nay, but He is Allah, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise."}

This means He is the one intrinsically deserving of worship due to His attributes: Al-'Aziz (The All-Mighty), which signifies complete power, and Al-Hakim (The All-Wise), which signifies perfect knowledge whose actions align with that knowledge.

Translation:

{And We have not sent you except as a bringer of good tidings and a warner to all mankind, but most of the people do not know.}
