Surah Saba' (Verse 28)

And We have not sent you except as a bearer of good tidings and a warner to all mankind, but most of the people do not know.

When the matter of Monotheism (Tawhid) was clarified, He proceeded to discuss the Prophethood (Risalah), saying:

{And We have not sent you except as a bearer of good tidings and a warner...}

There are two interpretations regarding the word {إلا كافة} (illa kaffatan):

  1. Kaffatan means a universal mission (irsālatu kāffatin), meaning general to all people, preventing them from deviating from submission to it.
  2. Kaffatan means that you (O Prophet) are sent as one who restrains (takuffu) disbelief, with the attached pronoun (hā’) indicating intensification.

{...a bearer of good tidings} (bashīran): meaning you urge them with the promise (of Paradise).

{...and a warner} (nadhīran): meaning you deter them with the threat (of punishment).

{...but most of the people do not know} (wa lākinna akthara an-nāsi lā yaʿlamūn): They do not know this not because it is hidden, but because of their heedlessness.

{And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful?"}
