Surah Saba' (34): Verse 36

Then, Allah, the Exalted, clarified the error of their reasoning by saying:

**{Say, "Indeed, my Lord extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it], but most of the people do not know."}** (34:36)

This means that the abundance or scarcity of worldly provision does not indicate the status of the righteous or the wicked. How many a wealthy person is miserable, and how many a poor person is pious!

**{But most of the people do not know}**

Meaning, the restriction of provision, the hardship of living, the abundance of wealth, and the ease of living occur by Divine Will, without being exclusively reserved for the wicked or the righteous.

**{And your wealth and your children are not that which bring you near, to Us, [significantly] close, except for one who believes and does righteousness. For those there will be a recompense of double for what they did, and they will be in the high chambers, secure.}** (34:37)

Then, He clarified the corruption of their inference by stating:

**{And your wealth and your children are not that which bring you near, to Us, [significantly] close, except for one who believes and does righteousness. For those there will be a recompense of double for what they did...}**
