Tafsir of Fatir 35:11

Surah Fatir 35:11

ﳈ ﳉ ﳊ ﳋ ﳌ ﳍ ﳎ ﳏ ﳐ ﳑ ﳒ ﳓ ﳔ ﳕ ﳖ ﳗ ﳘ ﳙ ﳚ ﳛ ﳜ ﳝ ﳞ ﳟ ﳠ ﳡ ﳢ ﳣ ﳤ ﳥ ﳦ ﳧ ﳨ ﳩ ﳪ ﳫ ﳬ

And Allah created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop; then He made you mates. And no female conceives nor does she give birth except with His knowledge. And no aged person is granted [additional] life nor is his lifespan lessened but that it is in a register. Indeed, that for Allah is easy.

| Fatir: (11) And Allah created you from...

We have repeatedly mentioned that the proofs, despite their abundance and inability to be exhaustively counted, are confined to two categories: the proofs in the horizons (external world) and the proofs within the selves (internal world), as stated by the Almighty: {We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves} (41:53).

After mentioning the proofs in the horizons—from the heavens and what is sent down from them (angels), and the earth and what is sent upon it (winds)—He proceeded to the proofs within the selves.

We have explained this interpretation multiple times. We also discussed the view that His saying: {from dust} refers to the creation of Adam, and {then from a sperm-drop} refers to the creation of his offspring. We clarified that the discourse does not require this interpretation. Rather, {He created you} is an address to all people, who are the descendants of Adam, and they are created both from dust and from a sperm-drop, because all of them originate from a sperm-drop, and the sperm-drop comes from nourishment, which ultimately traces back to water and dust. Thus, from dust, it became a sperm-drop.

And His saying: {And no female conceives nor does she give birth} points to the perfection of His action. For what is in the wombs, even after conception, as long as it is inside the belly, no one knows its condition—how could they, when the pregnant mother herself knows nothing about it?

So, after demonstrating the perfection of His Power with His statement: {He created you from dust}, He demonstrated the perfection of His Knowledge with His statement: {And no female conceives nor does she give birth except with His knowledge}. Then, He demonstrated the execution of His Will with His statement: {And no one is granted a long life, nor is his life shortened, except that it is in a Book}.

Thus, He clarified that He is the Capable, the Knowing, the Willing. The idols possess no power, no knowledge, and no will; so how can any of them deserve worship?

His saying: {Indeed, that is easy for Allah} means the creation from dust. It is also possible that what is meant is that granting long life and shortening it is easy for Allah, or that knowing what a female conceives is easy for Him. However, all things are easy for Allah. The first interpretation (creation from dust) is more fitting, as the term "easy" is more appropriate when used in relation to an action.

| 7 < { And the two seas are not alike: one is fresh, sweet, pleasant to drink, and the other is salty and bitter. Yet from both you eat fresh meat, and from both you extract ornaments which you wear, and you see the ships therein plowing through (the water) so that you may seek of His bounty, and that you may be grateful. } 7 !

Then the Almighty said: {And the two seas are not alike: one is fresh, sweet, pleasant to drink, and the other is salty and bitter. Yet from both you eat fresh meat, and from both you extract ornaments which you wear}.
