Tafsir of Fatir 35:23-24

Surah Fatir: Verses 23-24

Then the Almighty said: {Indeed, We have sent you with the truth, a bearer of good tidings and a warner.}

When He said: {You are only a warner}, it was to clarify that he is not a warner on his own initiative, but rather a warner by the permission and sending of Allah.

Then the Almighty said: {And there has not been an Ummah [community] but that a warner has passed among them.}

This serves to affirm two matters:

1. Consolation for his heart: So that he may know that others before him endured similar harm from their people.
2. Obligation upon the people: To compel them to accept him, as he is not an unprecedented messenger; rather, he is like others who called with the same message that the messengers before him called with and established.

{And if they deny you, then certainly did those before them deny. Their messengers came to them with clear proofs, and with the Scriptures, and with the illuminating Book.}
