Surah Fatir (35): Verse 34

And they will say, "Praise be to Allah, Who has removed all sorrow from us."

There are several interpretations regarding the meaning of "all sorrow" (كل حزن). The preferred view is that it means the removal of every sorrow. The definite article (الـ) signifies totality and comprehensiveness.

Sorrow is removed when everything that is due is attained, and this attainment is perpetual. If even a single thing that was due had not been attained, sorrow would still exist because of it. If what was attained were not to last, the sorrow would not be truly gone, due to its potential return or the fear of its passing.

Indeed, our Lord is Forgiving and Appreciative.

Allah mentions several things they say, all of which indicate honor bestowed upon them by God:

  1. Praise (الحمد): The one who praises is rewarded.
  2. Their address, "Our Lord" (ربنا): God never fails to respond when He is called by this term, unless the caller has wasted an obligatory time or requested something impermissible, such as being returned to the worldly life from the Hereafter.
  3. Their statement, "Forgiving" (غفور): This points to what He has forgiven them in the Hereafter due to the praise they offered in this world.
  4. Their statement, "Appreciative" (شكور): This points to what He gives them and increases for them because of the praise they offered in the Hereafter.

[35:34] Who has settled us in the Home of Permanence out of His grace. No fatigue will touch us therein, nor will weariness touch us therein.
