Surah Fatir 35:5

ﱎ ﱏ ﱐ ﱑ ﱒ ﱓ ﱔ ﱕ ﱖ ﱗ ﱘ ﱙ ﱚ ﱛ ﱜ

O mankind, indeed the promise of Allah is truth, so let not the worldly life delude you and be not deceived about Allah by the Deceiver.

Surah Fatir (35): Verse 5

O mankind...

This refers to Satan, and we have already mentioned the subtle meaning concerning this in the exegesis of Surah Luqman. We will reiterate it here:

The accountable person (mukallaf) may have a weak mind, little intellect, and poor judgment, causing them to be deceived by the slightest thing.

Or, they might be stronger than that and not be deceived by a small thing. However, if a deceiver comes to them, makes that thing seem appealing, minimizes its harms, and clarifies its benefits, they will be deceived due to the pleasure involved, combined with the deceiver's invitation.

Or, they might be strong-willed and possess profound intellect, so they are neither deceived nor a deceiver.

Therefore, Allah Almighty said: {Let not the worldly life delude you} (referring to the first degree of susceptibility).

And He said: {Nor let the Deceiver delude you concerning Allah} (referring to the second degree).

This is so that the person reaches the third and highest degree, where they are neither deluded nor a deceiver.

Then Allah Almighty said: {Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you, so take him as an enemy} <
