Surah Ya-Sin (36): Verse 26

Then the Almighty said: {It was said, "Enter Paradise."}

There are two interpretations regarding this:

  1. First Interpretation: He was killed, and then it was said to him, "Enter Paradise" after his death.
  2. Second Interpretation: The saying, "Enter Paradise," occurred after his statement, {He said, "Oh, my people! If only they knew} (Ya-Sin: 25) [that I have believed].

According to the first interpretation (death first), the statement {He said, "Oh, Adam! Oh, my people! If only they knew} (referring to the believer mentioned previously) would have occurred after his death.

According to the second interpretation (belief first), he said that during his lifetime. It is as if he heard the Messengers inform him that he was among those destined for Paradise, he believed them, was certain of it, and knew it. Therefore, he said, "Oh, my people! If only they knew what I know, so they would believe as I have believed."

Regarding the meaning of the Almighty's statement {It was said} (قيل), there are also two interpretations, just as there were two interpretations regarding the timing:

  1. First Meaning: It refers to the command/speech (القول).
  2. Second Meaning: It means "Enter Paradise" (ادخل الجنة). This is similar to the Almighty's saying: {His command, when He intends a thing, is only that He says to it, "Be," and it is} (Ya-Sin: 82). The intended meaning here is not mere verbal utterance, but rather the action itself—that it happens immediately at its appointed time without delay or hesitation. Similarly, in the verse: {And it was said, "O Earth! Swallow your water," and "O sky! Withhold [your rain]"} (Hud: 44), the meaning is that the Earth swallowed its water and the sky withheld the rain.

**{Because my Lord has forgiven me and has made me one of those honored [in Paradise]}** (Ya-Sin: 27)
