Surah Ya-Sin (36): Verse 63

**This is the Hellfire which you were promised.**

[Al-Razi's Commentary on the State of the Misguided]

The state of the misguided person is likened to that of someone who left his homeland out of fear of an enemy, only to fall into hardship. If he had remained in his homeland, perhaps that enemy would not have overcome him, or might have shown him mercy.

Similarly, this applies to:

  1. One who did not exert himself toward obedience nor toward sin (like the insane).
  2. One who used his intellect but chose the wrong path.

The insane person, although not attaining high ranks (in Paradise), is considered among those destined for salvation. It has even been said that simple-mindedness (or idiocy) is closer to salvation than sharp, yet flawed, intelligence.

This is evident in sensory experience: one who does not know the way, if he stays put, will not stray far from the path. However, one who travels in the opposite direction of his goal will stray very far.

[The Consequence]

Then, He clarified that they will reach it and be present within it by His saying:

**Enter it today for what you used to disbelieve.**
