Surah Ya-Sin (36): Verse 71

**أو لم يروا أنا خلقنا لهم مما عملت أيدينا أنعاما فهم لها مالكون**

Then, indeed, the Almighty has reiterated the Oneness (of God) and the signs indicating it, saying:

"Or have they not seen that We have created for them, from what Our hands have wrought, cattle (an'āman)?"

This means: among the things We created with Our own hands—that is, what We created without any assistant or supporter, but rather by Our power and Will.

And His saying, "So they are their owners (mālikūn)?" points to the perfection of the favor (in'ām) regarding the creation of cattle. For if the Almighty had created them but did not grant humans ownership over them, humans would not benefit from them.

And His saying, "And We have subjected them (dhallalnāhā lahum) for them," is an addition to the favor. For if a possessed thing is rebellious and unruly, it is of no benefit. If humans owned cattle that were wild and resistant, the favor of riding would not be complete. Even if eating were achieved (as with wild animals), the blessing of eating would not be perfected except through the toil of hunting, and perhaps this is only achievable for some and in some instances.

And His saying, "So of them is their riding, and of them they eat," is an explanation of the benefit of subjugation (tadhleel). For without subjugation, one of these two benefits would not exist, and the other would be scarce.

**{ ولهم فيها منافع ومشارب أفلا يشكرون }**

"And for them therein are (other) benefits and drinks. Will they not then be grateful?"
