And indeed, Lot was among the messengers.
Tafsir
Verse range: 37:133
This is the fifth story. Allah (Exalted is He) mentioned this story so that the Arab disbelievers might take heed. Indeed, those who disbelieved from his people were destroyed, while those who believed were saved. The explanation of this story has already preceded.
He alerted them by His saying:
{And indeed, you pass by them in the morning * And at night}
This is because the people [of Makkah] used to travel to Ash-Sham (the Levant). Travelers most often travel at night and in the early part of the day. For this reason, Allah specified these two times.
Then Allah (Exalted is He) said:
{Then will you not reason?}
Meaning: Do you not possess intellects by which you can take admonition? And Allah knows best.
{And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers. * [Mention] when he fled to the laden ship. * And he cast lots and was among the reproached. * And the whale swallowed him, and he was blameworthy. * But if he had not been of those who exalt Allah [in His praise], * He would have remained in its belly until the Day they are resurrected. * So We cast him upon the open shore while he was sick. * And We caused to grow over him a plant of gourd. * And We sent him to one hundred thousand or more. * And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment for a time.}
