Surah As-Saffat (37): Verse 27

{And some of them will turn to others, questioning one another.}

It is said that this refers to the devils and the humans. Others say it refers to the leaders and their followers.

{Questioning one another} means some will ask others. This questioning is an expression of mutual accusation, a questioning meant to rebuke. They will say: "You deceived us!" And the others will reply: "Why did you follow us?"

In summary, this is not the questioning of those seeking information, but rather the questioning of reprimand and blame. And Allah knows best.

{They will say: "Indeed, you used to come to us from the right side [i.e., presenting yourselves sincerely]."}

{They will say: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers."}

{And we had no authority over you; rather, you were a transgressing people.}

{So the word of our Lord has been justly passed against us; indeed, we are tasters [of punishment].}

{And we led you astray; indeed, we were those who were astray."}

{Then indeed, that Day, they will be partners in the punishment.}

{Indeed, thus We deal with the criminals.}

{Indeed, when it was said to them, "There is no god but Allah," they grew arrogant.}

{And they said, "Shall we abandon our gods for a mad poet?"}

{Nay, he has brought the Truth and confirmed the Messengers.}

{Indeed, you are tasters of the painful punishment.}

{And you are not recompensed except for what you used to do.}

{Except the chosen servants of Allah.}
