And know that when the Almighty established the obligation of Jihad, He clarified that the *form* of fighting is not what matters.
Rather, the consideration is the intention and the motive. The believers fight for the purpose of supporting God's religion and exalting His Word. The disbelievers fight in the path of Taghut (false deities/tyranny). This verse indicates that whoever's goal in their action is the pleasure of other than God, they are in the path of Taghut. This is because when the Almighty mentioned this division—that fighting is either in the path of God or in the path of Taghut—it necessitates that everything other than God must be Taghut.
Furthermore, the Almighty commanded those who fight in the path of God to fight the allies of Satan, and clarified that the scheme (kayd) of Satan was weak, because God supports His allies, whereas Satan supports his allies. There is no doubt that Satan's support for his allies is weaker than God's support for His allies. Do you not see that the people of goodness and religion have their beautiful remembrance preserved throughout time, even if they were in extreme poverty and humiliation during their lives? As for kings and tyrants, when they die, their trace vanishes, and neither their memory nor their oppression remains in the world.
*Kayd* (scheme/plot) means striving to corrupt a situation through cunning. It is said: *kādahu yakīduhu* (he schemed against him) when one strives to inflict harm through trickery.
The benefit of including *kāna* (was) in the phrase **{was weak}** (*kāna ḍaʿīfan*) is for emphasis on the weakness of his scheme, meaning: since the beginning, it has been characterized by weakness and humiliation.

But when fighting was prescribed for them, a group of them feared people as they feared God, or with greater fear, and said, "Our Lord, why have you prescribed fighting for us? Why did You not respite us until a near term?" Say, "The enjoyment of this world is little, and the Hereafter is better for whoever is righteous, and you will not be wronged, not even by a thread [fiteel]." } > 7 !
