Al-Hujurat (49): 16

"Say: Do you inform Allah [of something]..."

This implies that He is already fully aware of it; nothing is hidden from Him. Furthermore, there is an indication here that religion ought to be for Allah, yet you (O companions of the Prophet) have displayed it to us, not to Allah. Therefore, this action will not be accepted from you.

"...[as if] they are conferring a favor upon you that they have embraced Islam."

Say: "Do not confer a favor upon me by your Islam; rather, it is Allah who confers a favor upon you by guiding you to faith, if you are truthful."
