Verse range: 50:20
This is connected (conjoined) to the preceding statement, {And the agony of death will come} (Verse 19).
The intended meaning here is either:
Under this second interpretation:
Regarding His statement: {That is the Day of the Threat}:
Al-Zamakhshari mentioned that That (ذلك) refers to the verbal noun (Masdar) derived from {And the Trumpet will be blown} (ونفخ), meaning the time of that blowing is the Day of the Threat.
This interpretation is weak because if Yawm (Day) were in the accusative case (mansub), what we mentioned would be clear. However, the nominative case (raf') of Yawm implies that That refers to the Day itself. A verbal noun (Masdar) is not the time itself; rather, it occurs within time.
Therefore, the preferable view is to say that That (ذلك) refers to the time implied by the statement {And the Trumpet will be blown} (ونفخ), because the verb, just as it indicates the verbal noun, also indicates the time. It is as if the Almighty is saying: "That time is the Day of the Threat."
The Threat (الوعيد) is what was promised concerning the gathering, the arrival (of deeds/souls), and the recompense.
