Tafsir of Qaf 50:26

Surah Qaf (50): Verse 26

The phrase "الذي جعل مع..." (He who set up with Allah...)

There are three interpretations regarding this phrase:

1. First View: It is a substitute (badal) for the preceding statement: {كُلُّ كَفَّارٍ عَنِيدٍ} (Every obstinate disbeliever) [Q: 24].
2. Second View: It is coordinated ('atf) with {كُلُّ كَفَّارٍ عَنِيدٍ}.
3. Third View: It is coordinated with the statement {أَلْقِيَا فِي جَهَنَّمَ} (Cast, both of you, into Hell). It is as if the meaning is: "Cast into Hell every obstinate disbeliever, and [cast in] him who set up another god with Allah." This implies that the one who set up another god should be cast into Hell after the first one has been cast in, subjecting him to the severe torment of Hellfire.

Then, the Exalted said:

{قَالَ قَرِينُهُ رَبَّنَا مَا أَطْغَيْتُهُ وَلَٰكِن كَانَ فِي ضَلَالٍ بَعِيدٍ}

His companion (or associate) will say: "Our Lord, I did not lead him astray, but rather he was already in profound error."
