Adh-Dhariyat (51): Verse 35 - "So We brought forth those who were..."
Two Points Arise Here:
1. Clarification of Power and Choice (Ikhtiyār):
- Those who adhere to the doctrine of Ittifāq (mere coincidence/agreement) claim that both the righteous person (al-Barr) and the wicked person (al-Fājir) are afflicted equally.
- However, when God distinguished the criminal (al-Mujrim) from the benefactor (al-Muhsin), it demonstrated that choice (divine selection/agency) is operative.
2. Demonstration that the Wicked are Saved by the Blessing of the Righteous:
- The village was not destroyed as long as a believer remained within it.
- The pronoun in "We brought forth those who were..." refers back to the village (al-Qaryah), which is understood even though it was not explicitly mentioned just before this verse.
The Verse:
**{ فما وجدنا فيها غير بيت من المسلمين }**
**"So We found therein none but one household of Muslims."**
