Surah Adh-Dhariyat (51): Verse 9
يُؤْفَكُ عَنْهُ مَنْ أُفِكَ
(Turned away from it is he who is turned away)
Exegesis (Tafsir)
There are several interpretations regarding this phrase:
- Praise for the Believers: It means that the one who is guided is turned away from divergent speech (falsehood) and directed toward the straight, consistent word (the Truth).
- Condemnation: It means that the one who is turned away is diverted from the Messenger (i.e., the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him).
- Denial of Resurrection: It means that the one who is turned away is diverted from affirming the Resurrection.
- Rejection of the Qur'an: It means that the one who is turned away is diverted from the Qur'an.
Variant Readings:
- It has been read as يُؤْفَنُ (yu'fanu) from the root A-F-N (أفن), meaning "deprived" or "forbidden."
- It has also been read as يُؤْفَكُ (yu'faku) from the root A-F-K (أفك), meaning "deceived" or "lied to."
