Surah At-Tur 52:16

ﱈ ﱉ ﱊ ﱋ ﱌ ﱍ ﱎ ﱏ ﱐ ﱑ ﱒ ﱓ ﱔ

[Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do."

Surah At-Tur (52): Verse 16

اصلوها فاصبروا أو . . . . . أي إذا لم يمكنكم إنكارها وتحقق أنه ليس بسحر ولا خلل في أبصاركم ~~فاصلوها . وقوله تعالى : { فاصبروا أو لا تصبروا } فيه فائدتان إحداهما : ~~بيان عدم الخلاص وانتفاء المناص فإن من لا يصبر يدفع الشيء عن نفسه إما بأن ~~يدفع المعذب فيمنعه وإما بأن يغضبه فيقتله ويريحه ولا شيء من ذلك يفيد في ~~عذاب الآخرة فإن من لا يغلب المعذب فيدفعه ولا يتلخص بالإعدام فإنه لا يقضي ~~عليه فيموت ، فإذن الصبر كعدمه ، لأن من يصبر يدوم فيه ، ومن لا يصبر يدوم ~~فيه الثانية : بيان ما يتفاوت به عذاب الآخرة عن عذاب الدنيا ، فإن المعذب ~~في الدنيا إن صبر ربما انتفع بالصبر إما بالجزاء في الآخرة ، وإما بالحمد ~~في الدنيا ، فيقال له ما أشجعه وما أقوى قلبه ، وإن جزع يذم ، فيقال يجزع ~~كالصبيان والنسوان ، وأما في الآخرة لا مدح ولا ثواب على الصبر ، وقوله ~~تعالى : { سواء عليكم } { سوآء } خبر ، ومبتدأه مدلول عليه بقوله { فاصبروا ~~أو لا تصبروا } كأنه يقول : الصبر وعدمه سواء ، فإن قيل يلزم الزيادة في ~~التعذيب ، ويلزم التعذيب على المنوي الذي لم يفعله ، نقول فيه لطيفة ، وهي ~~أن المؤمن بإيمانه استفاد أن الخير الذي ينويه يثاب عليه ، والشر الذي ~~ينويه ولا يحققه لا يعاقب ms8446 عليه ، والكافر بكفره صار على الضد ، فالخير الذي ~~ينويه ولا يعمله لا يثاب عليه ، والشر الذي يقصده ولا يقع منه يعاقب عليه ~~ولا ظلم ، فإن الله تعالى أخبره به ، وهو اختار ذلك ودخل فيه باختياره ، ~~كأن الله تعالى قال : فإن من كفر ومات كافرا أعذبه أبدا فاحذروا ، ومن آمن ~~أثيبه دائما ، فمن ارتكب الكفر ودام عليه بعد ما PageV28P212 سمع ذلك ، ~~فإذا عاقبه المعاقب دائما تحقيقا لما أوعده به لا يكون ظالما .

Translation:

**"Enter it, so be patient or not..."**

That is, if you cannot deny it (the punishment) and it is confirmed that it is neither magic nor an illusion of your sight, then:

"Enter it (the Fire), so be patient or not (patient)."

In the phrase, "So be patient or not (patient)," there are two benefits:

  1. Clarification of the impossibility of escape and the absence of refuge. A person who does not endure (is impatient) tries to repel the affliction from himself, either by overpowering the tormentor and preventing him, or by becoming enraged and killing him (the tormentor), thus finding relief. None of this is effective in the torment of the Hereafter. If one cannot overpower the tormentor to repel it, nor achieve release through death (as death does not end the punishment), then patience is equivalent to impatience. For the one who is patient, the torment endures within him; and for the one who is impatient, the torment endures within him.
  1. Clarification of the difference between the torment of the Hereafter and the torment of this world. In this world, if one endures (is patient), they might benefit from their patience, either through reward in the Hereafter or through praise in this world (being called brave and strong-hearted). If they despair, they are blamed (called weak like children and women). However, in the Hereafter, there is no praise or reward for patience.

Regarding the Almighty's saying: "It is all the same to you..." (Sawa'un 'alaykum), the predicate is implied by the subject, which is indicated by "So be patient or not (patient)." It is as if He is saying: Patience and impatience are equal.

If one objects, saying this implies an increase in punishment, or punishment for an intention that was not acted upon, we offer a subtle point:

The believer, through his faith, benefits such that he is rewarded for the good he intends, and he is not punished for the evil he intends but does not carry out. The disbeliever, due to his disbelief, is the opposite: he is not rewarded for the good he intends but does not do, and he is punished for the evil he intends but does not execute. This is not injustice, as Allah the Exalted informed him of this, and he chose it and entered into it by his own volition. It is as if Allah the Exalted said: "Whoever disbelieves and dies a disbeliever, I will torment him eternally, so beware. And whoever believes, I will reward him eternally." If someone commits disbelief and persists in it after hearing this warning, then when the Punisher punishes him eternally, it is a fulfillment of what He promised him, and thus He is not unjust.

Then the Almighty said: "Indeed, the righteous will be in Gardens (of Paradise) and Bliss."
