Surah At-Tur (The Mount): Verse 18

**...rejoicing in what their Lord has given them...**

And His saying, {rejoicing} (fākihīn): This adds to the description, because a person enjoying blessings might only show the enjoyment outwardly while his heart is preoccupied. When He says, {rejoicing}, it indicates the utmost delight.

And His saying, {in what their Lord has given them}: This conveys an increase in that state. This is because a person of base character might be delighted by the slightest thing and rejoice over the smallest cause. Thus, He says they are {rejoicing}, not because of the lowness of their aspirations, but because of the loftiness of their blessings, as they are from their Lord.

And His saying, the Exalted, {and their Lord protected them from the punishment of the Hellfire}: This carries two possibilities:

  1. That the meaning is that they are rejoicing in two matters: one is what their Lord has given them, and the other is that their Lord protected them.
  2. That this is a separate clause connected to the first one, as if He is clarifying that He admitted them into Gardens and bliss, and protected them from the punishment of the Hellfire.

Verse 19

**{Eat and drink with pleasure for what you used to do.}**
**{reclining on couches lined up in rows, and We will marry them to wide-eyed maidens (Hur).}**
