Surah At-Tur (52): Verse 25

Original Text Summary:

This section indicates that the inhabitants of Paradise will recall what happened to them in the world. The disbeliever will not forget the pleasures he had in the world. This increases the delight of the believer, as he sees himself moved from imprisonment to Paradise, and from constriction to spaciousness. Conversely, the disbeliever's pain increases as he sees himself moved from honor to ruin, and from bliss to Hellfire.

Then, they will remember their state in the world, characterized by fear and apprehension, and say: "Indeed, we were, before, among our people, fearful."

This means their questioning about the reason for their current state leads them to say: "We feared Allah." "So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire."

There is a subtle point here: their fear might have been related to the loss of worldly pleasures, leaving their families, and parting from their brethren. However, upon entering Paradise, they realized the error of that concern.

The Following Verses (At-Tur 52:27-29):

{فذكر فمآ أنت بنعمة ربك بكاهن ولا مجنون * أم يقولون شاعر نتربص به ريب المنون * قل تربصوا فإنى معكم من المتربصين}

Translation:

{So remind; and you, by the grace of your Lord, are not a soothsayer, nor are you mad. * Or do they say, "He is a poet? We await for him some calamity of time [i.e., death]." * Say, "Wait! Indeed, I am with you among those who wait."}
