Tafsir of An-Najm 53:46

Al-Najm (The Star): (46) From a drop of fluid...

And His saying, the Exalted: {From a nuṭfah (drop of fluid)} This means a piece of water.

And His saying, the Exalted: {when it is emitted} This comes from amnā al-manī (he emitted the semen) when it descends, or from mannā yamnī (he decreed/determined) when he estimates or determines.

And His saying, the Exalted: {From a nuṭfah} This serves as a reminder of the perfection of His power, because the nuṭfah is a body with proportioned parts. Yet, Allah, the Exalted, creates from it diverse organs and differing natures. The creation of the male and the female from it is the most wondrous of things, as we have explained. For this reason, no one has been able to claim the creation of man, just as no one has been able to claim the creation of the heavens. This is why the Exalted said: {And if you ask them, "Who created them?" they will surely say, "Allah," just as He said: {And if you ask them, "Who created the heavens and the earth?" they will surely say, "Allah"} (Az-Zumar: 38).

Then His saying, the Exalted:

{And that it is incumbent upon Him is the other creation (resurrection)}
