ﲎ ﲏ ﲐ ﲑ ﲒ ﲓ ﲔ

And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

Surah Al-Qamar (The Moon): Verse 17

"And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy to remember/admonish..."

There are several interpretations (وجه) regarding this ease:

  1. Ease of Memorization: It is easy to memorize, and nothing among the books of God Almighty has been preserved by heart except the Qur'an.
    • And His saying, the Exalted, "{Then is there any who will remember/take heed?}" means: Is there anyone who will memorize and recite it?
  1. Ease for Admonition: We have made it easy for admonition (الاتعاظ) by including in it every wisdom.
  1. Ease of Connection to Hearts: We have made it such that it captures the hearts and its hearing is found delightful. Whoever does not understand it, understands it, and whoever hears it and understands it does not tire of it. They do not say, "I already know it, so do not let me hear it." Rather, every hour they gain more delight and knowledge from it.
  1. The Most Apparent Meaning: When the Prophet (peace be upon him) mentioned the state of Noah (peace be upon him), and Noah had a miracle, it was said to the Prophet: "Your miracle is the Qur'an." "{And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy to remember/admonish}"—a reminder for everyone, and a challenge to the world that remains throughout the ages. Furthermore, everyone present does not need to supplicate or ask for the demonstration of a miracle. After you (O Prophet), no one can deny what occurred, just as some deny the splitting of the moon.
    • And His saying, the Exalted, "{Then is there any who will remember/take heed?}" means: Is there anyone who will recall (متذكر)? This is because the ifta'al (Form VI) and tafa''ul (Form V) patterns often carry the meaning of recurrence or returning to a state.
    • Based on this interpretation, if someone were to say: "This implies the existence of a prior state that was forgotten," we would reply: "What is innate in human nature (al-fitra) regarding submission to the truth is like something forgotten; so, 'Is there any who will remember/take heed?'" referring to returning to what they were naturally inclined toward.
    • Alternatively, it is said: "Is there any who will remember/take heed?" means: a memorizer or one who takes admonition, as we interpreted His saying, the Exalted, "We have certainly made the Qur'an easy to remember/admonish," and His saying, "Then is there any who will remember/take heed?"
    • According to our view that mudakkir means 'one who recalls,' it is an indication of the matter's clarity, as if it requires no denial, but rather is an established reality for them that does not require revisiting what others possess.

Then, the Almighty said:

"{'Aad denied, so how [terrible] was My punishment and My warnings!}"
