Tafsir
Verse range: 55:44
This is like His saying, the Exalted:
{And if they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like molten brass} (Al-Kahf: 29).
And like His saying, the Exalted:
{Whenever they wish to get out of it, they will be returned to it} (As-Sajdah: 20).
This is because when they try to exit, they call for relief, and something fluid appears to them from afar, which is their boiling pus. They mistake it for water, so they rush towards it as a thirsty person rushes towards water. They fall into it and drink from it like the drinking of camels (i.e., greedily), only to find it intensely hot, which severs their intestines.
This is similar to how a thirsty person, upon reaching salty water, does not investigate or taste it; rather, he drinks it deeply, which burns his heart and does not quench his thirst.
His saying: {Hameem} (boiling water) is an indication of what has been done to it (i.e., being brought to a boil).
His saying, the Exalted: {Aan} (intensely hot) is an indication of what preceded it. It is like saying, "I cut it, so it was cut." It is as if the fire has brought it to the utmost degree of heat, and Aan the water means it has reached the extreme limit of heat.
Then, the Exalted said:
**{Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?}**
