Tafsir
Verse range: 55:68-69
Verse 68:
**فِيهِمَا فَاكِهَةٌ وَنَخْلٌ** In both of them are fruits and palm trees.
Tafsir:
This is similar to His saying, the Exalted: {In both of them are every kind of fruit, in pairs} (Ar-Rahman: 52).
This is because "fruit" (الفاكهة) refers to terrestrial fruits, such as melons and other cultivated ground produce, and "palm trees" (نخل) refers to arboreal fruits and trees.
He said: {Dark green in color} (مُدْهَامَّتَانِ) (Ar-Rahman: 64) referring to the types of greenery, which include terrestrial fruits. And in both gardens are also arboreal fruits. He mentioned two specific types: pomegranates (الرمان) and fresh dates (الرطب).
He mentioned these two because they are opposites:
Thus, they are like two contraries. Pointing to the two extremes implies pointing to everything in between, just as He said: {Lord of the two easts and Lord of the two wests} (Ar-Rahman: 17), which we have previously explained.
Verse 69:
**فِيهِمَا فَاكِهَةٌ وَنَخْلٌ وَرُمَّانٌ** In both of them are fruits and palm trees and pomegranates.
(Note: The provided excerpt seems to jump from verse 68 to the beginning of verse 69, but the structure of the original text implies the continuation of the description leading into the next set of verses.)
The following verses mentioned in the excerpt:
**فِيهِنَّ خَيْرَاتٌ حِسَانٌ * فَأَيَّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ** In them will be excellent companions, fair of face. * Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?
(These lines correspond to verses 70 and 71 of Surah Ar-Rahman, which follow the description of the gardens.)
