Tafsir of Ar-Rahman 55:70

Surah Ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful): Verse 70

{فِيهِنَّ خَيْرَاتٌ حِسَانٌ} (In them are excellent ones, beautiful.)

Translation and Exegesis:

• {فِيهِنَّ خَيْرَاتٌ حِسَانٌ} (In them are excellent ones, beautiful.)
  • This means that within them (the aforementioned companions/beauties) is Khayr (excellence/goodness) in their inner reality, and Husn (beauty) in their outward appearance.
  • Khayrāt (excellent ones) is the plural of Khayrah.
  • We have already explained, concerning the preceding verses—from the Almighty's saying: {قَاصِرَاتُ الطَّرْفِ} (Companions of modest gaze) up to {كَأَنَّهُنَّ} (as if they were) (Ar-Rahman: 56-58)—that this description points to their inherent beauty (Hisan).

And the Almighty's saying:

{حُورٌ مَّقْصُورَاتٌ فِي الْخِيَامِ * فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ * لَمْ يَطْمِثْهُنَّ إِنسٌ قَبْلَهُمْ وَلَا جَانٌّ * فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ} (Houris, confined to pavilions. Then which of the favors of your Lord will you both deny? No one before them nor any Jinn has touched them. Then which of the favors of your Lord will you both deny?)
