The Event (Al-Waqi'ah): (34) And Raised Couches (Wa-furushun marfū'ah)

We have already mentioned the meaning of furush (couches/carpets). We will mention another interpretation concerning them, God willing.

As for "marfū'ah" (raised), there are three interpretations:

  1. Raised in Status: It is said, thawbun rafī'un (a noble garment), meaning high in status and price. This is supported by the Almighty's saying: {whose linings are of rich brocade} (Ar-Rahman: 54).
  2. Raised one above the other: Some being placed atop others.
  3. Raised upon beds/thrones.

Then the Almighty said:

**{Indeed, We have produced them [newly] * So We have made them virgins, * Loving, of equal age, * For those on the right hand.}** (Al-Waqi'ah: 35-38)
