The Event (Al-Wāqiʿah): (73) "Indeed, We made it a reminder..."

Regarding His saying: {a reminder (tadhkirah)}, there are two interpretations:

  1. A reminder of the Fire of the Resurrection (Qiyāmah). Therefore, the intelligent person must fear Allāh, the Exalted, and His punishment when they see the kindled Fire.
  2. A reminder of the truthfulness of the Resurrection (Baʿth). This is because the One who was able to place fire within green trees is certainly not incapable of placing the inherent heat back into a dead body. We have already mentioned this in the exegesis of His saying: {The One who made for you from the green tree fire} (Yā-Sīn: 80).

{The kindler (muqawwī)} is the One who kindled it, strengthened it, and increased it.

There is a subtle point here: Allāh, the Exalted, prioritized making it a reminder over making it sustenance/utility (matāʿ) to indicate that the benefit pertaining to the Hereafter is more complete and more important than the mention (of the worldly benefit).

Then Allāh, the Exalted, said:

{73} So glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most Great (Al-ʿAẓīm).
