Tafsir
Verse range: 59:15
Their likeness is as the likeness of those who [came] shortly before them.
Meaning, their likeness is like the likeness of the people of Badr in a near time. If it is asked: Why is *qareeban* (shortly/near) in the accusative case? We say: Because of *mithl* (likeness/example), and the implied structure is: *As the existence of a likeness similar to the people of Badr [was near]*. **"They tasted the evil consequence of their affair,"** meaning they tasted the bad outcome of their disbelief and their enmity towards the Messenger of Allah. This is derived from the saying: *kilā’un wabīl* (a noxious pasture), meaning one whose consequence is disastrous and evil. That is, they tasted the punishment of killing in this world. **"And for them in the Hereafter is a painful torment."**
Then He struck a parable for the Jews and the hypocrites, saying:
{ Their likeness is as the likeness of Satan when he said to man, "Disbelieve!" But when he disbelieved, he said, "Indeed, I am free of you. Indeed, I fear Allah, the Lord of the worlds." }
