Tafsir
Verse range: 59:17
There are two issues concerning this verse:
Issue 1: Muqatil said: The consequence for the hypocrites and the Jews was like the consequence of Satan and man, as both parties ended up in the Fire.
Issue 2: The author of Al-Kashshaf mentioned: Ibn Mas'ud recited it as: (خَالِدَانِ فِيهَا) [remaining therein eternally] with the nominative case (as two predicates), and the phrase (فِي النَّارِ) [in the Fire] is considered superfluous (or grammatically weak in that reading).
According to the famous recitation, the predicate is the adverbial phrase (the location), and (وَأَنزَلْنَا فِيهَا) [and We sent down therein] is a circumstantial clause (حال).
It was also recited with the nominative case for (عَاقِبَتُهُمَا) [the consequence of both of them].
Then He said: (وَذَلِكَ جَزَاءُ الظَّالِمِينَ) [And that is the recompense of the wrongdoers]. This refers to the polytheists (Mushrikun), based on His saying: {Indeed, association with Allah is a great wrong} (Luqman: 13).
